How to Apply for a New PAN Card

Choose the Application Portal

You can apply via NSDL (onlineservices.nsdl.com) or UTIITSL (www.utiitsl.com). Both are government-authorized. NSDL is more commonly used.

Select Form 49A (Indian Citizens)

Indian citizens use Form 49A. Foreign nationals use Form 49AA. Select "New PAN" application type.

Fill the Application Form

Enter your full name (as in identity proof), date of birth, father's name, address, mobile number, email, and source of income.

Upload Documents

Upload scanned copies of: Identity proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport), Address proof, Date of Birth proof, and a passport-size photograph.

Pay the Fee

The fee is ₹107 for Indian address (₹1,017 for foreign address). Pay online via net banking, UPI, or card.

E-Sign or Send Physical Documents

If applying with Aadhaar-based e-KYC: e-sign via OTP — no physical documents needed. Otherwise, send printed application + documents to the NSDL/UTIITSL office by post.

Track and Receive PAN

Note the 15-digit acknowledgement number. Track status at tin.tin.nsdl.com. PAN card arrives at your address in 15–20 working days. e-PAN is sent to email faster.

  • Identity proof: Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport / Driving License
  • Address proof: Aadhaar / Utility bill / Bank statement / Passport
  • Date of Birth proof: Birth certificate / Aadhaar / Passport
  • One recent passport-size photograph (JPEG, max 50KB)

Can I have two PAN cards?

No. Having two PAN cards is illegal and can attract a penalty of ₹10,000 under Section 272B of the Income Tax Act. If you have two, surrender one immediately.

Is PAN mandatory for everyone?

PAN is mandatory for anyone with taxable income, for opening a bank account above ₹50,000 transactions, property purchases above ₹5 lakh, and various financial transactions.
