Step-by-step Process
Sign Up on DigiLocker
Visit digilocker.gov.in or download the DigiLocker app. Click "Sign Up". Enter your mobile number and create a username and 6-digit security PIN.
Link Your Aadhaar
After signup, link your Aadhaar for enhanced access. This automatically fetches your Aadhaar-verified documents from issuing authorities.
Fetch Documents from Issuers
Go to "Issued Documents". Search for UIDAI (Aadhaar), CBSE, driving license, vehicle RC, income tax returns, etc. Click "Get" to fetch the official digital copy.
Upload Your Own Documents
You can also upload your own documents (PDFs/images up to 10MB each) in the "Uploaded Documents" section. You get 1GB of free storage.
Share Documents with Agencies
When asked for documents, share via DigiLocker. The recipient sees a link to the official document. No need to carry physical copies for most government and many private services.

Are DigiLocker documents legally valid?
Yes. Documents issued through DigiLocker by government agencies are legally equivalent to original documents under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Can I use DigiLocker driving license instead of the physical one?
Yes. Traffic police across India accept DigiLocker driving license as valid. The Motor Vehicles Act amendment recognizes digital documents.
